Chainsaws can be categorized mainly into three types;
- Battery-powered chainsaw
- Electric chainsaw
- Gas-powered chainsaw
Battery-powered chainsaws run on rechargeable batteries. Thus, their run time is limited to the battery life. These types of chainsaws are lightweight and portable but offer the least amount of power.
Electric chainsaws need to be used near an electrical outlet as you have to plug it in. They offer more power than battery-powered ones. However, they are not as powerful as gas-powered chainsaws.
Gas-powered chainsaws are powered by a mixture of oil and gasoline. They are the most powerful of the three types. However, they are bulky and larger; thus, they are not for everyone.
Which type is right for me?
Battery-powered chainsaws are best suited for light to medium tasks. Specifically, a battery powered chainsaw will be ideal if you want to prune or trim small trees.
If you have some bit of medium cutting tasks, an electric-powered chainsaw will be useful.
Gas-powered chainsaws are best for felling trees, cutting firewood and all-round heavy-duty tasks. They are used by professional loggers. Thus if you want to cut down some trees in your yard a gas-powered chainsaw is the way to go.
Gas powered vs electric vs battery powered Chainsaw
Each of these three types of chainsaws have their cons and pros.
Gas powered offers more power, but tends to be bulky.
Electric models are lightweight and compact, but are limited by an electric cord.
Battery powered are lightweight, portable but are the least powerful. For small occasional tasks, a battery powered model is ideal.
But for extended use, go for a gas powered chainsaw.
