One of the main reasons why we feel this is the best 10-inch compound miter saw is its axial-glide system. The latter is designed to minimize user fatigue while maximizing cutting efficiency.

The result is a system that makes it easy to lower and raise the blade. When it comes to cutting ability, this model can cut up to 12 inches of material horizontally. When placed vertically, you can slice up to 5.5 inches of material.

One feature that we found impressive was the fence. The engineering of this fence screams quality. But what we particularly loved was the two side design of it. One part remains fixed while the other is adjustable.

Design is the first thing that earns this Makita model a lot of praise from us. The rails on this saw stay fixed while the head slides on them. This means you do not lose cross-cutting capacity when you place the saw flush with the wall.

Unlike most miter saws, this one uses a direct drive motor. The latter type of motor translates to more power to the blade. Thus you can achieve a smoother cut on hardwoods.

From its name, this is a dual bevel miter saw. As such, it is capable of 0 to 60-degree miter cuts in both directions. As for the bevels, it has a range of 0 to 48 degrees also in both directions.

When it comes to crosscuts, you can do 2-13/16″ x 12″ at 90 degrees and 2-13/16″ x 8-1/2″ at 45 degrees.

What Is A Sliding Miter Saw?

Miter saws can generally be categorized into two, basic and compound. A general miter saw allows you to make miter cuts at preset angles. In some models, you have the option to adjust by a single angle.

Compound miter saws, on the other hand, have a pivoting blade. As such, they can be tilted in both directions to make bevel and miter cuts. A sliding miter saw is essentially a compound miter saw.

However, unlike a standard compound miter saw, a sliding miter saw can slide its blade on rails. This backward and forwards sliding motion means you can cut larger pieces of material.

Sliding compound miter saw vs. non-sliding: What's the difference?

A sliding compound miter saw and a non-sliding compound miter saw are very similar. Both can make miter and bevel cuts. However, these two saws differ in one area. While a sliding saw can slide forwards and backward a non-sliding one cannot.

How big of a miter saw do you need?

Miter saws come in two main blade sizes 12 and 10 inches. So which blade size should you buy? Well, it depends on your needs. Twelve inch blades cut deeper and wider. Hence 12-inch saws tend to be more powerful and bulky.

10 inch miter saws, on the other hand, cut smaller and are easier to handle. Also, they are less expensive. If you intend on cutting 2×4 lumber, a 10-inch saw is enough. However, for bigger materials such as 2×6 lumber, go for a 12-inch saw.

Who Needs Sliding Compound Miter Saw?

Best 10 inch sliding miter saw buying guide

Now that you have some understanding of what a sliding miter saw is, let’s look at some of the things to consider when shopping for one.

Single vs. dual bevel

Sliding compound miter saws can either be single or double bevel. A single bevel saw can only be moved in one direction right or left. Contrastingly, a dual bevel miter saw can be moved in both directions.

For decorative trim works, a dual bevel miter saw is best. Single bevel miter saws tend to be cheaper. Thus if you have no intricate miter cuts to make a single bevel, miter saw will do just fine.

Laser guide

10 inch miter saws tend to be smaller than 12-inch miter saws. Therefore, the size of the material they can handle is limited compared to 12 inch miter saws. All the same, some offer extendable tables to increase the size of the materials you can cut.

Also, it is worth checking the horizontal cutting capacity of a saw. This will determine how wide a board a saw can handle

Ease of use

Generally, 10 inch miter saws are easy to use. However, there are factors that can improve the ease of use. The design for the rail system is one of them. Another is how easy it is to change the blades.

Sometimes you may be forced to change your saw’s blade. This should be easy to do.

If you intend on moving with your sliding miter, saw to a Jobsite consider lightweight one. A lightweight saw will be easier to carry.
